In our congregation we have many ways to connect within the community. We also have different categories of belonging.
We have many “friends” of the congregation who are active and support the church with their time and financial resources.
Official membership in a Unitarian Universalist church is a step of deeper commitment. We ask that people participate in congregational life (see our “Pathways to Membership” below) before becoming a member.

Pathways from Visitor, to Friend, to Official Membership
Becoming a member of our church is a process of building relationships and developing an awareness of being connected to community.
We recommend that you participate in several different aspects of congregational life, with at least one in each category (we share some examples here), before considering membership.
Requirements for Official Church Membership:
- Age 14 or older
- Attend the Sunday morning reflection circles
- Participate in the KentUU Explorers small group series or meet with Minister or Connections Coordinator
- Understand and accept the congregational covenant and bylaws
- Sign the membership book
- Make a financial commitment (usually an annual pledge of support)
More Information on Categories of Belonging
A detailed explanation of the definitions, rights, and restrictions of the different categories of belonging are in our Membership Policy.
