A Message from our Minister

Welcome to the website for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent. It is my privilege to serve as the minister of this vibrant and welcoming congregation. If you are looking for a life-affirming religious community of love and justice, we may be the church for you.

Ours is a congregation of seekers. We gather together in religious community not because we all share common beliefs, but rather because we share common commitment. In our church we celebrate diversity. We affirm that there are many paths leading to spiritual growth and a life lived whole. Here we are committed to growing and learning, serving and caring. Our commitment is not only to ourselves and to our children, but also to each other and to the world we share.

Worship is the center of our community life. Our Sunday services explore a worthy theme each week through music, silence, prayer, meditation and the art of the sermon. In worship we seek to remember that which matters to us most and to bring our own lives ever more closely in line with our values. We draw inspiration from a wide variety of wisdom sources to help us in our quest to live loving lives of meaning and purpose. And we endeavor to remember that we dwell in so much mystery and a world of wonder.

We regularly create opportunities to share worship with the children of our church as we believe in the power and promise of intergenerational religious community. Most Sundays, though, our children spend their time at church in their religious education classes. Each class is taught by two teachers whose primary goal is to support each child to become their best selves. The curricula is carefully chosen for each class so that a child who completes our religious education program will have a firm grounding in Unitarian Universalism, exposure to a wide variety of the world’s religions, opportunities to engage in ethical reflection, opportunities to care and to serve and a comprehensive sexuality education rooted in respect for self and others.

Throughout the week we offer a variety of programs and activities for enrichment, education and fellowship. I encourage you to explore our web site. You will find that we offer many opportunities for spiritual growth and discovery, religious exploration, musical expression, justice-making, caring, connecting, celebrating and serving.

If what you have read on our site interests you, I encourage you to join us for worship. We have services each Sunday morning at 9:30 and 11:15. Our social hour is held between our services, so consider coming a bit early if you plan to visit us during the second service. We would be very pleased to welcome you to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent.

Peace,

Rev. Melissa Carvill-Ziemer
